2020-02-03: Study and Apply the Scriptures

Elder Flores, Elder Sorensen, y Elder Ypushima
Hola hola!! This week was pretty good :) Still working good and finally starting to find a lot more and better people to teach.

A few good investigators we found:  We found a lady named Lady (haha) and her boyfriend Daniel. They go to a different church but are super interested. They had tons of questions and really want to learn about what we teach. While teaching them, Daniel read 2 entire pamphlets and the whole introduction to the Book of Mormon!!! WOW!! He began asking tons of really good questions. They are awesome.

Another lady we found is named Jennifer Lopez. Hahahaha, en serio (Seriously!). She also goes to a different church but really wanted to learn more, especially what doctrines the church is founded in. We had an awesome lesson with her, and she really wants to find the truth.

Also a lady named Erlinda, who was waiting for us when we went back to her house for the appointment. She is a teacher in the Catholic church and claims to know a lot about the Bible, but when we started teaching the Restoration and teaching about prophets and such, she learned a lot and loved it. :)

We found an awesome couple--Jefferson and Adriana. THEY ARE MARRIED!!!! (A miracle here in Colombia.) Haha. Adriana is super Catholic and loves the Catholics but also wants to find the truth and says she feels there is more truth out there that she hasn’t found. Jefferson is kind of interesting. He loves God and wants to learn about Him, but he doesn’t believe in churches and doesn’t see a need for them. He also refuses to read the scriptures (because they are made by man and can’t be from God, according to him). It was an interesting lesson, but they are very nice and like talking about God.

We also found this family that is pretty awesome. The dad isn’t super interested but wants his kids to learn. The mom is just starting to study with the Jehovah’s Witnesses but also listens to us. The 2 kids are 20 and 15. They are a lot more interested and were asking lots of questions and then both said, “What do we have to do to be missionaries like you guys?” WOOOO! Haha. They are awesome and really ready to act and do what we taught.

God is good. Lots of good appointments with awesome people makes the week pass faster and better. We had a zone conference on Thursday and the area president (Elder Alvarado) came. It was pretty good. It was awesome seeing the other guys that were in Bolivia before. We are working a lot better and set some pretty awesome goals for this week.

The Bible is the word of God. It is an outline of God’s actions with His children. The Bible truly helps us know God more and can help us improve our relationship with Him. The Book of Mormon is the word of God and helps us know Christ better and what we need to do to follow Him. WE NEED TO STUDY AND APPLY THEM BOTH. Without the Bible we would be lost. Without the Book of Mormon we would be lost. We need to learn from and study all the words God has given us. If you want to be better, you only need to study the scriptures better. I know the scriptures contain the words of God.

Les amo!!

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2019-03-18: Seeing God’s Hand in His Work

Well ... this was a super awesome week. It was a little crazy but amazing to see God´s hand in His work. Ok, so martes/Tuesday was pretty good. We had several good citas/appointments planned with really good investigadores, but they both cancelled. We did contact quite a bit and have tried to find more new people to teach. We found this girl named Eli. She seemed super interested as we explained about the Restoration and asked lots of questions (and knows the Bible pretty well). It was sweet to find and teach her. Later we visited Max (who is like super-duper awesome). We helped him with his Duty to God book for young mens. We also explained he can (and should) share the gospel with his family and invite them to church with him. We also made a cita to have a Noche de Hogar with his whole family. While we were teaching and visiting with him, it started raining pretty hard. Dang. Hahaha. Of course, we just laughed. We had literally nothing (jackets or umbrellas), because there we...

2019-04-01: Another week in Betanzos

Well this week was pretty darn good. We had cambios/transfers last week, and I’m with Elder Puma (from Cusco, Peru). We worked really hard, and it was an awesome week. He speaks Quechua already so we are visiting a ton more people (that only speak Quechua), and it’s been pretty crazy and fun. Sometimes I understand everything, but other times, I don’t understand a darn thing. Hahaha. I think it’s just because some people talk faster or not as strict (like not following all the rules). But it’s helped a ton to have a comp who speaks it fluently. Left to Right: E. Bird, E. Vergara, E. Sorensen and E. Nieto. Ok so martes/Tuesday, I was with Elder Waldvogel (from Utah) most of the day while he waited for his companion to get here and while I waited for Elder Puma to get packed. We made it to Betanzos in the afternoon and had lunch and then went to the few citas/appointments we had. We were hoping to visit Max, but he wasn´t home and we ended up teaching his two younger siblings...
