2019-02-04: Raining

E. Vergara and Me, E. Sorensen!
This week was pretty crazy and a bit different but still super awesome.

Martes/Tuesday we did an intercambio/exchange. I went with Elder Pusarico (from La Paz, Bolivia) to Betanzos. My comp stayed with Elder Keate in Potosi. Martes was a pretty good day. We had a ton of citas planned and lots more people to look for, so we were super busy and something awesome about Elder Pusarico is that he loves to contact or just talk to anybody so that was super awesome. We talked to a ton of people. We had a super good lesson with one of our investigadores named Silvia. We taught about the Book of Mormon and how it is the keystone of our religion. I know, without a single doubt, that the Book of Mormon contains the complete truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that when reading it and applying the teachings to our lives, we can really live more happily. I also know the Bible is the word of God and contains many very powerful teachings and examples that really can help us live happier. I love the scriptures like crazy. I never really liked reading, but I’m always excited to read and study the scriptures each morning.

Mièrcoles/Wednesday we had interviews with our mission president, and I never really have any big questions or problems so they never last very long, but they are still super awesome. Later we got back to Betanzos and had a pretty good day. We taught some recent converts (Virgilio and Remedios) about Mosiah 2:41 and how if we really keep the Lord’s commandments we really truly can live with happiness.

Jueves/Thursday we went to Potosi again for zone conference. I love zone conferences because I always learn a lot from the lessons. This conference, our mission president, taught about the gathering of Israel, since our prophet, Russell M. Nelson, mentions it in every single talk. It was really cool (the lesson) and really helped me to understand the Old Testament way, way better. It also explains soooo many things about the way the church is today. It was super interesting, and as I have continued to study Israel and its scattering and gathering, I’ve really truly learned a ton. I would encourage each of you to study this topic, in the Bible and also the Book of Mormon. It’s incredible how much these two books refer to one another and bear testimony of each other. Pretty dang awesome.

Viernes/Friday we had a pretty good day. We visited with an inactive family and then our investigador Renaldo and his member girlfriend. They are always fun to visit. Later we visited Max (Virgilio and Remedios’ cousin). He is a pretty good investigador and really smart and has great questions. Around 6p-ish it started to rain a little bit but not much.

Sabado/Saturday we woke up and it was still raining, and then it rained literally the entire day. We had planned to play futsal with some jovenes/youth and contacts and then later bike out to Tecoya to visit a family, but it was pretty wet and flooding so we just stayed around Betanzos and didn’t do a ton. We visited a few people and cleaned to capilla/church.

Domingo/Sunday we woke up and it was still raining. Crazy. I’ve seen it raining super-duper hard and like a crazy storm, but it never lasts very long. I’ve never seen it rain for days straight without stopping at all. That was pretty crazy. Church went pretty well, but not very many people came (I think because of the rain). I was going to share my testimony in Quechua, but other people kept getting up and sharing, and well... the meeting finally finished at like 10:30a (and we started at 9a). Hahaha. It was a little crazy. After church we had lunch with Renaldo and his family and then visited a few other people and then went to Potosi. When we got to Potosi it finally stopped raining, and then this morning it rained a little more, but while we were playing futbal the sun finally started to come out. But right now, it’s raining again. Hahaha. This place is crazy, but I love it. That’s about all for this week. I love you all lots and hope everything’s going well.

Last week I wasn't feeling well, so they told me to put
papas (potatoes) on my face. (See pictures from last week.)
Then a few days later, we went
back to visit this lady, and she wasn't feeling well.
So I put papas on her face. Haha.

Zone Conference with President & Sister Montoya.

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2019-04-01: Another week in Betanzos

Well this week was pretty darn good. We had cambios/transfers last week, and I’m with Elder Puma (from Cusco, Peru). We worked really hard, and it was an awesome week. He speaks Quechua already so we are visiting a ton more people (that only speak Quechua), and it’s been pretty crazy and fun. Sometimes I understand everything, but other times, I don’t understand a darn thing. Hahaha. I think it’s just because some people talk faster or not as strict (like not following all the rules). But it’s helped a ton to have a comp who speaks it fluently. Left to Right: E. Bird, E. Vergara, E. Sorensen and E. Nieto. Ok so martes/Tuesday, I was with Elder Waldvogel (from Utah) most of the day while he waited for his companion to get here and while I waited for Elder Puma to get packed. We made it to Betanzos in the afternoon and had lunch and then went to the few citas/appointments we had. We were hoping to visit Max, but he wasn´t home and we ended up teaching his two younger siblings...

2019-03-25: Staying in Betanzos!

L to R: 1st Counselor in Betanzos bishopric, E. Sorensen, and Bishop. Well... this week was pretty crazy, like really weird. It was the last week of the cambio/(transfer or 6-week assignment), and we weren’t really sure what was going to happen. My comp (Elder Vergara) and I planned to contact a ton more than normal during the week to find a lot more new investigators. Well martes/Tuesday after our district meeting, our zone leaders called us to a different room and told us that President is thinking about closing Betanzos (as in taking out the missionaries so there are no missionaries). So that really killed us. We explained that it shouldn´t be closed and why. They told us they would talk to President and the assistants and let us know what they say. That really killed us. We made it back to Betanzos and had a good day with all our citas/appointments. Wednesday was goofy. We woke up and were talking about what will happen if they do close our area. We both felt it wa...
