2018-11-05: Another awesome week!

Editor's Note: Only got pictures of DOGS
this week! No idea why. Maybe it's the dog
that tried to bite him last week.
Well this week had its ups and downs, but I always like to see the positive and I think the ups were more and better than the downs.

Ok here we go, so last Pday we had a Noche de Hogar (Family Home Evening) with a familia and the elderes de Betanzos (Elders from Betanzos) went with us. Of course, we made cookies. Haha! Elder Baros and I made them, and they were super good--almost perfect. I love cookies. Hahaha. Actually, really I just love cookie dough.

Martes/Tuesday, we had our district meeting in the morning, and it was pretty good. That afternoon we had citas/appointments with some old investigadores but they both cancelled, and we had to go to the dentista for my comp. It was a little bit annoying because it was closed and we waited forever and finally got ahold of the dentista and he said, “Oh ya, your stuff isn’t ready yet. Come back tomorrow.” So that was a little annoying since we didn’t really do any work. We did go to correlation meeting with our ward mission leader and his wife speaks really, really good Quechua. So it’s fun to talk with her, and she helps me a lot with pronouncing the words.

Miercoles/Wednesday was basically the exact same as martes. We went to the dentista and spent most the afternoon there, and then went to Noche Misional (Mission Night), and my comp shared a video about the beginning of the church (Joseph Smith, the persecutions, that kind of stuff). Not very many people came since it was Halloween. We didn’t do anything for Halloween. Well, actually we did go to the Arcor store that’s in our area. Arcor is kind of like the big candy company in Bolivia. Most of the candy was way cheap, so we got a bit. Haha.

Jueves/Thursday was a much better day. After lunch, we went out to Cantumarca (the area kind of far away, where we found a ton of new investigadores the other week). We meet with several of the people we contacted and taught the last week, including the super good family that we found last week. The dad (Raul, his wife is Nora) is looking for the right church or the right path to God, so it was super duper awesome to help him find the answers to his questions. It was awesome because we sat and taught him and his whole family (4 kids). It was super spiritual, and I loved it sooo much. Well, we were going to play futsall that night at the church with the young men, and so we invited the 11-yr-old son. He came with us and then we took him home after, and then walked all the way back home (since there were no cars or trufes or like nothing that passes that far out at night). That was a pretty awesome day, and we were both super happy.

Viernes/Friday we didn’t do much again. We looked for a few references we had received, but none of them were home or had time. We then made panqueques with a member family and shared a little message with them. Then we went to another area to do baptismal interviews (since my comp is district leader). It was pretty cool to see how excited the people were to get baptized.

Sabado/Saturday we started our fast with our ward mission leader. We fasted for help with the investigadores and people we have contacted. We also went back out to Cantumarca and visited some more of the people we met last week. We also tried to visit Raul and his family again, but they weren’t home. We had already invited them to come to church but were planning to re-invite them and really try to get them to come. So we were a little disappointed when they weren’t home.

Domingo/Sunday—well, we went to church and right before the meeting started ... Raul and his wife and the boy who had played futsal with us showed up!! We were super duper excited!!! They only stayed for sacrament meeting, but it was still super awesome. After church we had a few citas/appointments, one of which being with a brother named Hugo, who we had contacted the other week. Well we got there and he was waiting for us and brought his whole family (wife and 7 kids). We sat and talked with them, and he is a lot like Raul. He has lots of super good questions and is looking for the truth and right church. It was super awesome and his whole family is pretty educated on different religions since their dad has researched different churches. At first, he was a little hesitant, but then opened up and started accepting the things we were saying. We gave them all the Libros de Mormón that we had, and then the brother took a picture of us and with his family. It was super cool, and they were all super excited to read it and pray to find their own answers. My comp and I were both super excited.

I am sooo happy the Lord led us to find these two families. I am super excited to help them come to Christ and see their lives change. This is why I’m out here, why I left my family, why I want to learn Quechua. I want to invite as many people as possible to find the true church and bring more happiness into their lives. I love being a missionary.

Love ya guys. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! This week was super awesome.
Wajkutikama! Hasta luego!

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2019-04-01: Another week in Betanzos

Well this week was pretty darn good. We had cambios/transfers last week, and I’m with Elder Puma (from Cusco, Peru). We worked really hard, and it was an awesome week. He speaks Quechua already so we are visiting a ton more people (that only speak Quechua), and it’s been pretty crazy and fun. Sometimes I understand everything, but other times, I don’t understand a darn thing. Hahaha. I think it’s just because some people talk faster or not as strict (like not following all the rules). But it’s helped a ton to have a comp who speaks it fluently. Left to Right: E. Bird, E. Vergara, E. Sorensen and E. Nieto. Ok so martes/Tuesday, I was with Elder Waldvogel (from Utah) most of the day while he waited for his companion to get here and while I waited for Elder Puma to get packed. We made it to Betanzos in the afternoon and had lunch and then went to the few citas/appointments we had. We were hoping to visit Max, but he wasn´t home and we ended up teaching his two younger siblings...

2019-03-18: Seeing God’s Hand in His Work

Well ... this was a super awesome week. It was a little crazy but amazing to see God´s hand in His work. Ok, so martes/Tuesday was pretty good. We had several good citas/appointments planned with really good investigadores, but they both cancelled. We did contact quite a bit and have tried to find more new people to teach. We found this girl named Eli. She seemed super interested as we explained about the Restoration and asked lots of questions (and knows the Bible pretty well). It was sweet to find and teach her. Later we visited Max (who is like super-duper awesome). We helped him with his Duty to God book for young mens. We also explained he can (and should) share the gospel with his family and invite them to church with him. We also made a cita to have a Noche de Hogar with his whole family. While we were teaching and visiting with him, it started raining pretty hard. Dang. Hahaha. Of course, we just laughed. We had literally nothing (jackets or umbrellas), because there we...
