2020-03-09: Helping Awesome People Progress

Hola, Hola!! This week was pretty awesome. A few ups and downs, but that’s how life goes right. We found a lot of really good, new investigators this week.

We found this lady Yackilina and her husband Rovilson. It was an awesome contact, and then when we went back for the appointment, we talked a bit about the life and the need for Jesus Christ and the gospel. It was an awesome lesson and at the end she told us that she has lots of dreams and recently she had a dream that she didn’t understand very well, but she said “everything you just said has helped me soo much, I understand so much more now. I’ve been praying God would help me to understand.” WOW!!

We had several awesome citas/appointments with our investigators that are progressing towards baptism. We had a good cita with Rainir. He is awesome. He is struggling a little with work and unfair treatment and pay (‘cuz they’re from Venezuela). But he never forgets God and keeps reading the Book of Mormon and praying. And he came to church on Sunday! WOO!!

Nicol was supposed to be baptized this last week, but her mom still isn’t sure if she wants her to get baptized yet. Dang. Nicol is awesome and super ready. We just got to help her mom see that now.

We also had a cita with David. He is super ready for baptism. He’s a little special, but still very smart and really wants to be baptized. We talked a bit about President Russell Nelson and watched a video of Pres Nelson talking to Colombia in Spanish. Pres Nelson is awesome. I know he is God’s prophet here on the earth today.

Yuly (the lady that went to Venezuela a few weeks ago), she came back this last week. She is also very ready to be baptized. God is good. We’ve got several baptisms planned for the coming weeks. We are working hard finding new people to baptize in April. Training is awesome. My comps are very young, hahaha, and sometimes it’s very obvious. They want to work and learn everything though, so it’s awesomeness.

Thursday we had an awesome zone conference. One of the best I’ve ever had. Some gentleman came from the Mission Department and gave an awesome class talking about faith. He talked about how the prophets and people that lived before Christ had testimonies of Him and said, “We have received the remission of our sins” before Christ had even been born. He talked about how faith is trusting in God’s promises. Then he compared that faith and idea to our missions. We are here to baptize. We should see more people as “already baptized” or “already in the temple” and with that grand faith, work to help them reach that potential. Focus more on the future and look to things to come, not so much to the past. It was an awesome lesson, and I really learned a lot.

Also, our branch here is the best. We are planning Family Home Evening lessons to prepare for this coming General Conference, and the members are awesome and inviting their friends to join us. We have been having FHE almost every night of the week, and it’s been a great help to our investigators.

Life is good. The mission is awesome. We’ve heard a bit about the coronavirus and it’s pretty close; it’s in a city like 30 minutes away. I really hope it won’t affect the work in any way. We have lots of awesome people progressing really well.

Elder Sorensen

2019-01-14: An Awesome Week!

This week was super duper awesome! We had an awesome baptism and worked really hard but also had tons of fun. I love being a missionary and helping other people find true happiness. Me and David. He is one month younger than me. Well ok, martes/Tuesday our district meeting was super good. (I love 1 Nephi 19:9 , it makes me think if Jesus did all that for me because He loves me and wants me to be happy, I should love Him too and try harder to do the things He asks of me. I also learned I should develop this love for other people and put their happiness and needs above my own.) Anyways, we got back to Potosi and then after lunch, went to work. We had several people with goals to be baptized the coming Saturday, so we really needed to meet with them. Well, we only found one of them (Remberto), and we had a super good lesson with him, but he is a little hesitant to be baptized because he wants a firm solid testimony before he makes that choice. We explained how that was good but ...

2019-01-21: Flying By

Hiking - Jan 14, 2019 pday activity Well, another awesome week flew by. It always seems like yesterday was just pday. Hahaha. Well martes, we did an intercambio/exchange (since my comp is district leader). So I was with Elder Nieto (from Ecuador) en Betanzos. We had lots of fun. We didn’t have any citas/appointments, but we had a ton of people to look for so that’s what we did, and it went pretty well. We ended up getting to teach a less-active member that we have been trying to meet with for a long time. It was interesting to see how things that happened sooo long ago still have effects and how this person is still holding on to those feelings. It made me think how I never want to be like that and how it will always be better to forgive and move on with life instead of holding feelings of anger. It was also cool because we shared Mosiah 2:41 , and it reminded me that the real true happiness we can feel will be when we are keeping the commandments from God and working to be...

2019-04-22: Holy Week

Well this week was sweet. It passed super fast. Ok so, martes/Tuesday we spent most of the day at Daniel’s house. He’s a member. He told us to be there at 8am, so that’s when we got there. Well, we kind of just prepared stuff, not really much until like 10a, and then they gave us a plate of food (like rice, papas/potatoes and pollo/chicken). Then about 10:30a we actually started working. We had like 5 guys mixing (dumping water, rock, sand, and cement into the mix). Then 4 guys were passing it up to the roof in buckets, and then 5 guys spreading it and packing it and such on the roof. We worked nonstop until 2:30ish (when we finished). I was the one taking the buckets from the mixer and passing them up to a guy above me on scaffolding. I actually enjoyed doing real physical work, even though it wore me out. Then they brought us a soup, and then a plate of arroz/rice, papas and some meat, and another plate of salad stuff, more papas, and more meat. It was pretty good, but I cou...
