2019-10-21: Learning Lots & Bolivian Elections

This week was pretty awesome. I love being a missionary, and I am learning tons! God is good.

This week we had zone conference Tuesday. It was pretty awesome. President gave a good class about how the mission is a sacrifice, and we can’t receive all the blessings possible if we aren’t sacrificing everything. We are not here to have fun or enjoy our time here. We can do that at home. We are here to do what God wants and help each one of his children live closer to Him. Conference was awesome.

This week we worked super hard. We have finally learned working with the members and less actives is way, way, way more effective than contacting. Most part-member families are already familiar with the church, and we are seeing a bunch have been prepared to be baptized. We spent time getting to know the bishop and then the presidents of some of the organizations, and then asking them about the people in their organization, the less actives they know and who we should visit.

This week was awesome. I think this might be the answer. We have been sprinting full speed on ice, and it’s because we are doing something wrong. We have been contacting like crazy, which is great, and we have found lots of really good investigators, but they either drop us and tell us not to come back or don’t seem super interested. It happened again this week. Alieta called us and told us she no longer has time to visit with us. DANG. But my comp and I are realizing there are people ready and wanting to be baptized. We just need to find them. And I guess it just wasn’t her time yet. “The field is WHITE and ALL READY to harvest.” The field isn’t ready to plow or ready to seed and plant, NO there are people ready to be baptized. So our job is to be way more in tune with the Spirit and trust that God will lead us to those elect. We feel that most of them are in part-member families or less active families. God is good. This week was awesome. It was kind of disappointing about Alieta but we are moving on to people that are ready.

Sunday they had elections here for the president. It was kind of crazy, and there wasn’t church and we had to stay in the house all day. We had cambios/transfers, but Elder Norton and I are staying together. We are super excited for this cambio and ready to give it our all. I love being a missionary. Bolivia is awesome. I am learning how to better apply the things I’m teaching to my own life. I love studying and learning more and then being able to share my testimony and the things I learned.

Love ya guys!!

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2019-04-01: Another week in Betanzos

Well this week was pretty darn good. We had cambios/transfers last week, and I’m with Elder Puma (from Cusco, Peru). We worked really hard, and it was an awesome week. He speaks Quechua already so we are visiting a ton more people (that only speak Quechua), and it’s been pretty crazy and fun. Sometimes I understand everything, but other times, I don’t understand a darn thing. Hahaha. I think it’s just because some people talk faster or not as strict (like not following all the rules). But it’s helped a ton to have a comp who speaks it fluently. Left to Right: E. Bird, E. Vergara, E. Sorensen and E. Nieto. Ok so martes/Tuesday, I was with Elder Waldvogel (from Utah) most of the day while he waited for his companion to get here and while I waited for Elder Puma to get packed. We made it to Betanzos in the afternoon and had lunch and then went to the few citas/appointments we had. We were hoping to visit Max, but he wasn´t home and we ended up teaching his two younger siblings...

2019-03-25: Staying in Betanzos!

L to R: 1st Counselor in Betanzos bishopric, E. Sorensen, and Bishop. Well... this week was pretty crazy, like really weird. It was the last week of the cambio/(transfer or 6-week assignment), and we weren’t really sure what was going to happen. My comp (Elder Vergara) and I planned to contact a ton more than normal during the week to find a lot more new investigators. Well martes/Tuesday after our district meeting, our zone leaders called us to a different room and told us that President is thinking about closing Betanzos (as in taking out the missionaries so there are no missionaries). So that really killed us. We explained that it shouldn´t be closed and why. They told us they would talk to President and the assistants and let us know what they say. That really killed us. We made it back to Betanzos and had a good day with all our citas/appointments. Wednesday was goofy. We woke up and were talking about what will happen if they do close our area. We both felt it wa...
