2019-08-12: Another awesome week

Hola hola!!! This week was super awesome. We worked super hard and found lots of new people to teach.

Ok so, martes/Tuesday we had meetings in the morning. In the afternoon we went to work and had a super awesome day. We visited with Celia, and she wants to get baptized and is so ready. But she doesn’t want to get baptized in August because she says it’s the devil´s month, and nobody should do anything special in Agosto ... dang. We are still working with her though. We also visited with Juanita and were trying to talk with her niece, who is super awesome and was asking us tons of questions the last visit. Well this time we were answering her questions, and it was going really good and then her mom (who isn’t a member) came out of the house and wasn’t really happy with us and did want her daughter talking with us. Dang that wasn’t very fun. Later we were doing a few zone things and somebody called me, but I didn’t recognize the name or the person talking. She was saying we had a cita/appointment for 5p and eventually I figured out where she lived and we just decided to go down there after we finished the zone stuff. Well we tried finding her house but ended up finding a guy who turned out to be a less active member who we didn’t know. So we set up a cita with him and then eventually found the house of the lady who called me. (Turns out it was the Castro family.) hahaha. Well we visited with them, and they had invited their friend Delia and we taught them and got a cita with Delia. It was super cool to see God guide us to other people that needed a visit or that we could help. Oh also, we shared Alma 56 from verse 30 to 43 and talked about the story, and then we asked them how does the story apply to us. I had studied those verses that morning in my personal study and learned a few things like don’t follow silly temptations or to stay focused on my goal and not go to the left or the right. Well it kind of seemed like they didn’t really understand the story or how to apply it so we reviewed it for them and then asked the same question and they started sharing about how “there is always a second backup army to help. Like the missionaries or the members of the church, sometimes we feel alone and that the temptations are going to catch up to us and destroy us, but then we always receive help from the missionaries or other members.” WOW!! We were super happy to see them understanding the scriptures and applying them, and they really taught me a lot. I love parables because that’s how Christ taught, and they always help everyone to learn something that applies specifically to them. AWEOMSE!!! I love the Book of Mormon.

MiĆ©rcoles/Wednesday we visited several people in the morning including the brother of Edwin (the guy who served his mission in California and is super cool). His brother seemed pretty cool but kind of didn’t want to talk with us. We´ll keep trying though. In the afternoon, we visited lots of people. We helped Aneceli in her store, moving and organizing stuff. She was super grateful, and it was cool to see how God lead us to show up there right when she needed help. We also visited Ana (a less active member and got several references from her). We also visited Jhonathan (like 20 yr old less active member) and set up a Family Night to visit with his whole family, parents, and other siblings. We were going to visit with the Ala family, but they didn’t have time so we visited with Hno Martin (our less active ward mission leader, haha). He is a goofy guy and is always “way too busy”. They needed a visit though and were happy we came.

Jueves/Thursday we asked our pensionista for references, and she sent us to a few of her family members. We visited several people that day, but the best was with Hno Bon (the ward 1st counselor) and his wife. He was like “Wow, somebody remembers me!” Hahaha. He is from Brazil and is super cool. He works buying silver and minerals from the mines and then selling them to companies and such. It was super cool to talk with him about mines and stuff (the little that I know). Well then we shared 1 Nephi 20:10 and Moroni 7:48 and talked about how we can be “purified” through afflictions and Christ. It was a super cool lesson, and I was super happy that they understood the mining analogies and such (most people don’t).

Viernes/Friday we did service with the Castro family in the morning, and then we went out to Betanzos and helped the people there. We had a super good day and visited lots of people.

Sabado/Saturday we got back from Betanzos and then had a super awesome cita with Delia (from martes) and her family. They really want to know more about God and churches and such and have lots of super good questions. That was awesome to see God guide us to that family. In the afternoon most of our citas fell through but we did have a good visit with the Magne family. (They are awesome.) Then we helped at English class.

Domingo/Sunday we went back out to Betanzos for church. It was awesome. The teachers were all there and teaching and fulfilling their callings. I was soooo happy for them. Not as many came as I hoped, but there still was a pretty good number and the ward seems to be doing great and progressing good. I am so grateful that I stayed in Potosi and got to see the fruits of lots of labors. God is good... all the time. And all the time .... God is good. In the afternoon we had to do a few zone things, and then we had a super awesome cita with one of the references that our pensionista gave us. The girl’s name is Carla, and her husband is Gustavo, and Carla’s little brother is Edgar. They had lots of good questions and really want to learn more and “turn mormones.” Hahaha. They are awesome. We also had a great visit with the Quispe family. They were remembering a few hard memories from before and when we got there they were all crying. We visited with them and read the Book of Mormon with them and just talked with them, and by the time we left they were all laughing. Haha. That was super awesome, and we felt really good and blessed to have that opportunity.

Today my comp and I got up at like 5:30am, and we went and hiked Cerro Rico (the big mine/mountain here that is famous). It took us a little less than 2 hrs to get up and less than an hour to get down. It was pretty awesome. Then we played wally (volleyball in a racquetball gym). It was a fantastic week. I love being a missionary and all the amazing things I get to experience while trying to be a representative of Jesus Christ. I love the Book of Mormon like crazy and really know it is the word of God and can help us in whatever situation we may find ourselves in because it leads us to Christ, and He always knows how to help.

Les amo!!

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2019-04-01: Another week in Betanzos

Well this week was pretty darn good. We had cambios/transfers last week, and I’m with Elder Puma (from Cusco, Peru). We worked really hard, and it was an awesome week. He speaks Quechua already so we are visiting a ton more people (that only speak Quechua), and it’s been pretty crazy and fun. Sometimes I understand everything, but other times, I don’t understand a darn thing. Hahaha. I think it’s just because some people talk faster or not as strict (like not following all the rules). But it’s helped a ton to have a comp who speaks it fluently. Left to Right: E. Bird, E. Vergara, E. Sorensen and E. Nieto. Ok so martes/Tuesday, I was with Elder Waldvogel (from Utah) most of the day while he waited for his companion to get here and while I waited for Elder Puma to get packed. We made it to Betanzos in the afternoon and had lunch and then went to the few citas/appointments we had. We were hoping to visit Max, but he wasn´t home and we ended up teaching his two younger siblings...

2019-03-25: Staying in Betanzos!

L to R: 1st Counselor in Betanzos bishopric, E. Sorensen, and Bishop. Well... this week was pretty crazy, like really weird. It was the last week of the cambio/(transfer or 6-week assignment), and we weren’t really sure what was going to happen. My comp (Elder Vergara) and I planned to contact a ton more than normal during the week to find a lot more new investigators. Well martes/Tuesday after our district meeting, our zone leaders called us to a different room and told us that President is thinking about closing Betanzos (as in taking out the missionaries so there are no missionaries). So that really killed us. We explained that it shouldn´t be closed and why. They told us they would talk to President and the assistants and let us know what they say. That really killed us. We made it back to Betanzos and had a good day with all our citas/appointments. Wednesday was goofy. We woke up and were talking about what will happen if they do close our area. We both felt it wa...
