2019-07-15: Super Busy in Potosi

HOLA HOLA!! Weelllll, this week has been pretty crazy and passed super fast. So last Monday we were still in Cochabamba, and it was super fun.
A picture sent from a gal in Potosi

Martes/Tuesday in the morning we had Consejo de Líderes (Leadership Council Meeting), and it was super-duper awesome. It was basically the exact same as zone conference just a little different with only zone leaders. It was awesome and super spiritual. President gave an awesome class about the importance of studying the scriptures and why they are so important. I really liked how in Alma 31:5 it says that the scriptures have more force and power and influence than the sword. President also said that if we want to improve as persons and be better, we just need to improve our study of the scriptures. I love the Book of Mormon and Bible like crazy and love the opportunity to study them every day. The Assistants gave a good class about teaching with the Spirit and leaving commitments guided by the Spirit. I know that’s really important, and I love being able to feel the Spirit so often. Around 2p the consejo (council meeting) ended, and we had lunch and then we got back on a plane and then a car to make it back to Potosi around 8p.

Miércoles/Wednesday was a good day. We visited with Santusa and are helping her daughter to get baptized. We also visited with the Hna Rosa. She is a super awesome investigator but really wants to feel something before she decides to change and get baptized. Kind of silly because that’s not normally how it works, but we will keep helping her. I really believe that we will almost always receive blessings after we show God we are willing to do what He says, even if we don’t understand the reason. Anyways, that night, we started a intercambio/exchange with the elders of Centro. I stayed in Cerro Rico (my area) with Elder Roncal from Peru. I’ve done intercambios with him before, and we get along pretty good.

Well, jueves/Thursday was pretty fun. We worked a ton and got a lot done, but we also got lost a ton. We left after studying in the morning and went to a few citas/appointments, but only one actually happened so we had a bit of time to go look for other people. I had ideas of several people we could look for, but I only remembered how their door looked and not really the streets and so we never actually got to the houses. Hahahha. It was funny. In the tarde/afternoon, besides getting lost a few more times, we had a really good visit with Susana. Later visited a few more people and then ended the intercambio. We were supposed to have a Noche Misional/Mission Night (that we are in charge of to help investigators and members be closer and more friends). However the ward is practicing their dance for the Chiriwayrita (the dance thing they do every year) and the same one I went to last year. So it was fun to practice a little with them. Also, that night when we got home, I started making a portamate. It’s like a backpack out of leather to carry mate. It’s pretty cool. They are super expensive to buy, and my comp has made one and so I decided to make my own.

Viernes/Friday we stayed super busy. In the morning we had reuniones/meetings, and we taught the class president gave in consejo (Council Meeting) about studying the scriptures. We ran a few zone errands and then had a few citas to go to. Several of the appointments fell through, and we ended up going to visit the mayor´s family. It was pretty cool because they actually needed a visit, and it was just another testimony to me that we really are doing the Lord’s work. We also visited Celia (who like disappeared last week because she was sick and then traveled). But we found her and she still wants to get baptized so that’s super awesome. Viernes we also had to pick up an Elder who was coming from Cochabamba and going to Tupiza. He stayed the night with us, and then we spent most of Saturday morning get him a car to Tupiza and waiting for it to leave. In the afternoon we visited the Flia Magne (Magne family). They had just finished techando/roofing the house, and the tradition is to give lots of food to the guys who worked and did it. And also for all those guys to drink like “bless the house.” Well we showed up while they were doing that, and we were happy to get TONS of food (meat, potatoes, aba, oca and sweet potatoes), but it was funny but annoying to be around so many drunk people. Later we were supposed to have a Noche de Hogar (family night) with a pretty cool guy but he was busy. Then we went and visited Edwin and were going to go to the English class with him. But then nobody came so we went and visited with Gabo. (He is a super cool guy but kind of less active).

Domingo/Sunday we went to church, and it went super good. We had 4 investigators come to church which was super-duper awesome. Also Edwin and his entire family came again. AWESOME!! After church we went down to Satelite (a different area) and did a baptismal interview. Then after lunch we went down to the prison again, and this time we brought Uno and played with a few guys down there and then read the Book of Mormon a little bit. It was pretty fun. After that we visited the Flia Quispe (Quispe family) and helped them understand better God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. It was super cool because they were asking tons of questions about them, and it was awesome to help them learn more about the Godhead. Later we visited the Hno Elias (who we were supposed to have the Noche de Hogar with Saturday night.) Today we just rested pretty good, and my comp bought a bunch of recuerdos (souvenirs) since he is going home pretty soon. We also did a barbeque with all the missionaries here and the mayor of Potosi and his family (they are members).  It was nice to just rest since we have been pretty tired.

Anyways this week was super busy but super fun. I love being a missionary though and sharing my testimony about Jesus Christ and His gospel. It’s kind of sad to hear that my family moved from Wickenburg, but oh well, what can I do? Also it’s kind of crazy that this week I complete a year as a missionary. Pretty crazy. Time flies.

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2019-04-01: Another week in Betanzos

Well this week was pretty darn good. We had cambios/transfers last week, and I’m with Elder Puma (from Cusco, Peru). We worked really hard, and it was an awesome week. He speaks Quechua already so we are visiting a ton more people (that only speak Quechua), and it’s been pretty crazy and fun. Sometimes I understand everything, but other times, I don’t understand a darn thing. Hahaha. I think it’s just because some people talk faster or not as strict (like not following all the rules). But it’s helped a ton to have a comp who speaks it fluently. Left to Right: E. Bird, E. Vergara, E. Sorensen and E. Nieto. Ok so martes/Tuesday, I was with Elder Waldvogel (from Utah) most of the day while he waited for his companion to get here and while I waited for Elder Puma to get packed. We made it to Betanzos in the afternoon and had lunch and then went to the few citas/appointments we had. We were hoping to visit Max, but he wasn´t home and we ended up teaching his two younger siblings...

2019-03-25: Staying in Betanzos!

L to R: 1st Counselor in Betanzos bishopric, E. Sorensen, and Bishop. Well... this week was pretty crazy, like really weird. It was the last week of the cambio/(transfer or 6-week assignment), and we weren’t really sure what was going to happen. My comp (Elder Vergara) and I planned to contact a ton more than normal during the week to find a lot more new investigators. Well martes/Tuesday after our district meeting, our zone leaders called us to a different room and told us that President is thinking about closing Betanzos (as in taking out the missionaries so there are no missionaries). So that really killed us. We explained that it shouldn´t be closed and why. They told us they would talk to President and the assistants and let us know what they say. That really killed us. We made it back to Betanzos and had a good day with all our citas/appointments. Wednesday was goofy. We woke up and were talking about what will happen if they do close our area. We both felt it wa...
