2018-09-11: Week 2 en el campo (in the field)

Pictures from p-day in Uyuni / Salt Flats.
(Updated with pictures.)

Well this week was pretty fun! Last miercoles (Wednesday) we did our first intercambios (exchanges with other missionaries). I went to Cerra Rico with Elder Lehman, and his companion Elder Nelson went to San Clemente with Elder Cabrera. It was a really awesome day! It started with a bucket shower because they didn’t have a working lil heater thing. So I went to the roof and got some hot water because for some reason there is a big water heater up there and then took it back down and showered. Hahaha. It was burning hot for a second and then freezing cold. Haha. Oh well. The day was awesome. He had literally every hour planned out and back up contacts to meet if appointments fell through. I loved it. We worked super hard and got lots done. He told me lots about the mission and answered a lot of my questions.

Spanish is coming along good and it helps a lot to have a Latino with me. Also I’m learning a lil bit of Quechua which is super sweet. Also I’ve gotten my workouts here. Haha. Lots of old ladies go to the feria (store?) and buy big bags of rice or sugar or such and then take the trufe to their houses, kind of. Except their houses are usually up super steep hills that trufes don’t go to soooo, hahaha, several times I’ve gotten to carry big bags of sugar or rice or flour or whatever up some pretty long steep hills while my companion talks to them. Hahaha. I really enjoy it because it’s a workout. Haha. And it’s service, so I feel super good.  Church was pretty good. Like usual around here nobody showed up on time, and the meeting started pretty late. Hahaha. Oh well. I ended up playing the piano and Elder Cabrera gave a talk.

We went to Uyuni yesterday, and it was super duper fun. I have tons of pictures, but my camera died so it’ll have to wait until next week. Sorry. We saw lots of cool stuff, and I bought a pretty cool handmade jacket that I really like.

Anyway that’s about it for this week. I love studying the Book of Mormon every day, and it’s way better when I have a question I’m looking for an answer to. Por ejemplo (for example), I was reading in 1 Nephi about when Nephi went back to get the plates, and they tried once and then his older brothers were done. If Nephi had just stayed the young brother and followed along, they wouldn’t have gotten the plates. But he stood up for what he knew was right. And after a few more tries with the Lord’s help they were successful. Super cool and applies so much to me right now, and I learned a lot from it. So I’d encourage you to read the Book of Mormon every single day and before you start, pray, and ask God to help you find answers to your questions. I know He listens to our prayers and wants to help us. The scriptures are the way we can best find answers because they really are the word of God to us. I love you guys and thanks for all the emails!  Hasta lunes (until Monday)!

2019-03-18: Seeing God’s Hand in His Work

Well ... this was a super awesome week. It was a little crazy but amazing to see God´s hand in His work. Ok, so martes/Tuesday was pretty good. We had several good citas/appointments planned with really good investigadores, but they both cancelled. We did contact quite a bit and have tried to find more new people to teach. We found this girl named Eli. She seemed super interested as we explained about the Restoration and asked lots of questions (and knows the Bible pretty well). It was sweet to find and teach her. Later we visited Max (who is like super-duper awesome). We helped him with his Duty to God book for young mens. We also explained he can (and should) share the gospel with his family and invite them to church with him. We also made a cita to have a Noche de Hogar with his whole family. While we were teaching and visiting with him, it started raining pretty hard. Dang. Hahaha. Of course, we just laughed. We had literally nothing (jackets or umbrellas), because there we...

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2018-08-01: Week 2 Ends

well week two was awesome! we had a lot more time to kind of settle down since we had lots of personal study times and not so much classes. we are also teaching two people *our morning teacher and then afternoon teacher* but like next week i think we will actually start teaching real investigators or less active members that our teachers invite. our lessons go pretty good. they are a bit more realistic and tougher questions then the first practice one. I really enjoy it. Me and elder moore are getting pretty good at spanish and do pretty well during lessons. our whole district also made a goal to speak only spanish every day. except for like spiritual lessons where we need to express our selves or when we are just telling stories and messing around. its really good practice tho and we are all improving a ton. I love it here. i also bought a bunch of flashcards at la tienda por 341 pesos on my debit card just so you know. ive made a goal to memorize 20 new words a day and the cards ha...
