2019-09-16: WORK in Cochabamba

Elder Caceres & Elder Sorensen
(Elder Caceres is serving in Potosi.
He came to Cochabamba for training.)

This week has been awesome.

Martes/Tuesday I took a 3 hour taxi ride from Potosi to Sucre and then a 30 minute flight from Sucre to Cochabamba. It was pretty crazy to think that after more than a year in Potosi, I was leaving. I got to Cochabamba around 11:30ish, and then it took almost an hour to get to my new area and house. I’m in the Rosedal Ward in the Sarco Stake. We dropped of my stuff real quick at the house, and then we went to lunch and then we went to work. There weren’t many citas/appointments planned for the day, but we went to work and started contacting and looking for lots of investigators and people to visit. We worked really hard and had a super good visit with this lady named Salomé. She is super cool and really wants to get baptized and come to church, but she wants to do all this with her husband and he is kind of lazy (she says). Hahaha. She is awesome though.

Miércoles/Wednesday we went to work again. In the morning we went to visit a contact that they had found the week before. They are a super awesome family. Well, actually, there are like 5 families that are living in like the same house but in different rooms. They are all super, super good. We visited with Nely and Victoria. They are two super awesome ladies who really want to get baptized and learn more about Jesus Christ. It’s always a fun visit there because there are so many people, and we always visit with lots of them and they are all super excited. After lunch we had a few citas and a lot of contacting. We also had correlation meeting that night, and it was pretty good. The ward is pretty established and has people in callings. There was the ward mission leader and then the elder’s quorum first counselor and the relief society first counselor too. It was sweet. Also we share the ward with hermana missionaries, so that’s a little different but cool.

Jueves/Thursday was good. I had a really good personal study on faith. I learned how big it is that we act. Faith is not just believing. Even devils believe in Jesus Christ, but that doesn’t change their actions. We need to apply our beliefs and live in accordance with them. I learned that knowledge is useless if we don’t apply it. Wisdom is applied knowledge, knowledge in action. Faith is applied belief, living beliefs. It was a super good study, and I learned a lot. We had a super good day visiting the casa de oro (the house that has 5 families). We taught a few different people but mostly with Nely and Victoria again. We had a few more citas in the afternoon that went pretty good. We had a sweet lesson with Jhonathan and Melissa. They are an awesome couple that is sooooo ready to be baptized; they just need to get married. And they are working on that and almost done with the papers. They are awesome investigators. Later we went to a member’s house, Sergio and Jasmina. They are really good members, and they have a very nice house. Hahaha. And Jasmina cooks extremely well. We had dinner with them, and it was sooo good. Also I had to remember what manners are and how to have them. Hahahah. I’m not out in the country and fields anymore, hahahha. After, we had a really good visit with Salomé’s spouse. He seems pretty cool, and we explained our purpose and a little about how the gospel applies to him too.

Viernes/Friday we had meetings with districts and zone. They were pretty good. It’s a bit different to have hermanas in the zone but they are cool, and I’m getting to know everybody. In the afternoon, we had tons of citas. We worked super hard and several good visits with investigators.

Sábado/Saturday we worked crazy hard again, of course. It was a little interesting because there were a ton of missionaries from other zones who were in Cochabamba because they were training. So they arrived at our house around midday. So we had to take care of them and also work and get all our citas done. We had several really good visits. One was with this investigator named Alieta. She has been investigating for a little while and has tons of questions. We had an awesome visit with her explaining the Gospel and how much we need Jesus Christ and how it all fits together and what our part is. She understood really well and really seemed to enjoy it and then actually came to church (for her first time). It was awesome!!!

Domingo/Sunday was pretty good. The ward is really good and really wants to help and be a part of the missionary work. They are awesome. Domingo we had a really good visit with this psychologist lady named Veronica. She is a really good investigator and really smart and understands a lot, but it’s interesting because she has a different manner of learning and thinking so it’s fun helping her learn.

I love my new area and my companion, Elder Norton. We are both super, super excited and willing to work and give this all we got. We are super excited for this cambio and the things the Lord has planned for us. God is good.

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2019-04-01: Another week in Betanzos

Well this week was pretty darn good. We had cambios/transfers last week, and I’m with Elder Puma (from Cusco, Peru). We worked really hard, and it was an awesome week. He speaks Quechua already so we are visiting a ton more people (that only speak Quechua), and it’s been pretty crazy and fun. Sometimes I understand everything, but other times, I don’t understand a darn thing. Hahaha. I think it’s just because some people talk faster or not as strict (like not following all the rules). But it’s helped a ton to have a comp who speaks it fluently. Left to Right: E. Bird, E. Vergara, E. Sorensen and E. Nieto. Ok so martes/Tuesday, I was with Elder Waldvogel (from Utah) most of the day while he waited for his companion to get here and while I waited for Elder Puma to get packed. We made it to Betanzos in the afternoon and had lunch and then went to the few citas/appointments we had. We were hoping to visit Max, but he wasn´t home and we ended up teaching his two younger siblings...

2019-03-25: Staying in Betanzos!

L to R: 1st Counselor in Betanzos bishopric, E. Sorensen, and Bishop. Well... this week was pretty crazy, like really weird. It was the last week of the cambio/(transfer or 6-week assignment), and we weren’t really sure what was going to happen. My comp (Elder Vergara) and I planned to contact a ton more than normal during the week to find a lot more new investigators. Well martes/Tuesday after our district meeting, our zone leaders called us to a different room and told us that President is thinking about closing Betanzos (as in taking out the missionaries so there are no missionaries). So that really killed us. We explained that it shouldn´t be closed and why. They told us they would talk to President and the assistants and let us know what they say. That really killed us. We made it back to Betanzos and had a good day with all our citas/appointments. Wednesday was goofy. We woke up and were talking about what will happen if they do close our area. We both felt it wa...
