2019-12-30: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Elder Sorensen, Flores, & Burt

This week was AWESOME!! We worked super hard and effectively and saw TONS of success and progress. We have a TON of investigators progressing, and we are finding lots of new people.

Monday night we had an awesome lesson with a different Venezuelan family. Their names are Pedro and Pricila, and they have 3 kids, and she is pregnant. They are super, super poor and are working selling little candies in the streets. We brought them a cake and sodas because it was Pricila’s birthday :) We had a great lesson with them, and they are super interested to learn more about God and how to follow Him more, because they have gone through soo much and they know how much He has been helping them.

Christmas Lunch with the Venezuelans
Tuesday (Christmas Eve) we didn’t do too much. We had lunch with an investigator and family and then dinner with a big member family. Christmas Day (miercoles) we prepared a lunch for all the Venezuelan investigators we are teaching. They are super poor, so we decided to make a traditional Christmas plate from Venezuela for them (with help from a Venezuelan of course, hahaha). It was awesome!!! Then we talked with the fam. :) Christmas was great.

Jueves (Thursday) we went back to work and had an incredible day. We had several awesome citas/lessons with progressing investigators, and then we found 2 new entire families!!! Both were references that have talked with missionaries before, and we are excited to help them come closer to Christ. We also had an awesome lesson with the Venezuelans. We taught about the pattern of prophets and apostasies from the Bible and then how the same thing happened and God once again has called a prophet today! The Spirit was super, super strong, and it definitely touched their hearts. The most interesting one is a lady named Nairubys. Her whole family are Jehovah’s Witnesses, but she feels like there is more truth to be found. At first she didn’t seem to believe us and was trying to argue, but we wouldn’t argue with her and by the middle of the lesson, the Spirit was talking and she knew it. IT WAS AWESOME!! We left them all with Books of Mormons and a few Bibles (they have nothing), and they are super hyped to read it and find the truth themselves!! WOOOO!!!!

Viernes (Friday) we had another super, super awesome day!! We had an awesome cita with a friend of a member named Lousia Fernanda. We taught her last week, and she is super interested and works for a member lady (which really, really helps). We taught about the Restoration and a living prophet and the Book of Mormon, and then she said she wants to get baptized.... and help her children and all her friends do the same!!! She is awesome!! She is reading and praying and preparing to be baptized in mid-January!!! WOOO!!! We also taught some older investigators that have been progressing slowly. We were able to find what is keeping them from being baptized, and they are now both preparing to be baptized in January. The Book of Mormon is the word of God and has a great power. A great spiritual power comes from reading the Book of Mormon and praying daily.

Sabado (Saturday) we found another awesome family!! This lesson was interesting... They were a reference from members, but when we got there, they had lots of family over for the holidays. Equally, we want to invite all to come unto Christ and before long we were in a lesson with the entire family (like 15 people). However, one guy was super, super Jehovah’s Witness and trying to argue and prove us wrong every minute. Another lady was super Catholic and didn’t seem too interested. Despite the resistance, we taught about God’s love and how He calls prophets, the people fall into apostasy and then God calls another prophet (using the Bible to teach everything). Once again the Spirit was very strong, and it touched everyone (except the JW, he still tried to argue to the end). It ended up helping us though... hahah near the end we asked, “Do you guys think we need a living prophet today?” And a lady said, “Well seeing the confusion here between you guys, I’d say yes, of course we need a prophet!” WOOOO!!!! It was a very interesting lesson and quite different as we tried to maintain the Spirit in the room. God definitely helped us though, and we left them all with Books of Mormons and the challenge to find out if it’s true or not (even with the JW). ;)

Domingo (Sunday) was AWESOME!!!! The entire Venezuelan family came! Louisa came! Several other awesome investigators came!! WOOOOO!!! GOD IS GOOD. We had interviews with the mission President in the afternoon, and it was nice to express all my feelings with him. :) I love Colombia and the people here. I love serving God and being a representative of Jesus Christ. Changing missions is tough, especially since they are extreme opposites (mission wise) but focusing on the work and the people here is helping me block out the nonsense. :)

Les amo!!

2020-03-02: Craziest Appointment So Far

Hellos!! THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!! Hahaha. We worked super hard and are seeing lots of progress. Attitude is everything in the mission. A good attitude and hard work will always bring good results. GOD IS GOOD.  We have several awesome people preparing to be baptized soon.  Nicol (13 years old) is going to get baptized this Saturday. She’s incredibly smart and is really taking this seriously. She is sooo ready to be baptized. We had a really good talk, telling her to be nicer to her mom, because that’s what Christ would do and if she wants to get baptized she needs to be more Christlike. She understood :) and took it really well. She’s very mature. Mucha nicol (an expression that means “way to go” “you’re awesome”). Rainir is a baller. He’s an industrial engineer and very smart. He’s planning to get baptized the 21st. He just wants an answer from God to be sure. He’s reading and praying every day. GOLD! He’s awesome. We found this lady named Alba...

2019-04-01: Another week in Betanzos

Well this week was pretty darn good. We had cambios/transfers last week, and I’m with Elder Puma (from Cusco, Peru). We worked really hard, and it was an awesome week. He speaks Quechua already so we are visiting a ton more people (that only speak Quechua), and it’s been pretty crazy and fun. Sometimes I understand everything, but other times, I don’t understand a darn thing. Hahaha. I think it’s just because some people talk faster or not as strict (like not following all the rules). But it’s helped a ton to have a comp who speaks it fluently. Left to Right: E. Bird, E. Vergara, E. Sorensen and E. Nieto. Ok so martes/Tuesday, I was with Elder Waldvogel (from Utah) most of the day while he waited for his companion to get here and while I waited for Elder Puma to get packed. We made it to Betanzos in the afternoon and had lunch and then went to the few citas/appointments we had. We were hoping to visit Max, but he wasn´t home and we ended up teaching his two younger siblings...

2019-03-25: Staying in Betanzos!

L to R: 1st Counselor in Betanzos bishopric, E. Sorensen, and Bishop. Well... this week was pretty crazy, like really weird. It was the last week of the cambio/(transfer or 6-week assignment), and we weren’t really sure what was going to happen. My comp (Elder Vergara) and I planned to contact a ton more than normal during the week to find a lot more new investigators. Well martes/Tuesday after our district meeting, our zone leaders called us to a different room and told us that President is thinking about closing Betanzos (as in taking out the missionaries so there are no missionaries). So that really killed us. We explained that it shouldn´t be closed and why. They told us they would talk to President and the assistants and let us know what they say. That really killed us. We made it back to Betanzos and had a good day with all our citas/appointments. Wednesday was goofy. We woke up and were talking about what will happen if they do close our area. We both felt it wa...
